 Health: Self-Management Skills

Rest and sleep allows our body to recharge energy to prepare us for the next day’s activity. Children should have enough rest and sleep for them to perform tasks that are expected for them to do. Household chores, school works and sports activities can drain our energy. That is why after doing such activities, we need to have a good rest and sleep.

Do you know that experts suggest specific time frame that will fit the needs of each child? Take a look at the table below and find out if you have enough sleep.

Good posture means a person’s body is correctly aligned and supported by the right amount of muscle tension. Correct posture can help reduce strain on the body during movement and exercise. Also, it could improve the health of our spine. If you manage your body the right way, whether you are moving or still, you can prevent pain, injuries and other health problems.

Do you know:

We have a physical activity pyramid guide to make us aware of the activities that we need to do. If we follow the suggested activities, it will help in making us physically
healthy.

Everyday activities are considered
moderate activities. Some of the
examples are walking and doing household chores. Do you help in doing chores at home.

Segregating our waste at home and I also water the plants in our garden. I love feeding our animals at home and I help in preparing food for the family.

There are vigorous
activities that we need to do three to five times a week.  Some of the examples are running, swimming, biking, playing basketball, tennis,
and hiking.

Physical activity makes our bones, muscles and joints stronger. It can help us manage our weight better.
In addition, we will be more relaxed, sleep better, and have a better mood and energy if we engage in proper activities.

Good day! I am Avelina. Today, I will tell you information on how to manage oral or dental problems by singing you a song in the tune of “London Bridge is Falling
Down”. Here it goes.

Importance of Undergoing Health Appraisal Procedures

Health appraisal refers to a series of procedures to assess and determine the health status of the students or persons through the use of teacher’s observations, screening tests, health histories or inventories, medical and dental inspections and psychological tests. They are dependent upon the cooperative effort of parents, teachers, physicians, dentists, health educators, nurses and others.

Do you want to remember the health appraisal procedures through a song? Here is one for you.

If you have difficulty in seeing things, VISION SCREENING
If you have difficulty in hearing things, HEARING TEST
If your spine is curving right or it may be curving left
Then it’s time for you to have SCOLIOSIS TEST.

Let us have the measurement of HEIGHT and WEIGHT
To know if you’re stunted, obese or underweight
For the problem of your teeth, it’s DENTAL EXAMINATION
For the status of your health, HEALTH EXAMINATION.

Undergoing health appraisal is a must! (Is a must!)
Undergoing health appraisal is a must! (Is a must!)
For the status of the breasts, it’s BREAST SELF-EXAMINATION
Undergoing health appraisal is a must! (Is a must!)

Health appraisal procedures should be done regularly
Health appraisal procedures should be done regularly
So come and visit doctors, with your friends and family
Health appraisal procedures should be done...regularly.

Health Appraisal Procedure is a procedure to determine the health status of a person.

There are seven common health appraisal procedures that a person needs to undergo.

1. Height and Weight Measurement is used to measure body mass index or BMI. It tracks and monitors the health and growth of a child.

2. Breast Self-Examination helps
doctor checks the breast of a person to know the breast problems or abnormalities that may occur especially for girls. It is done by feeling the breast if there are any lumps and bumps. Self-examination is needed especially at the age of puberty and onwards.

3. Hearing Test is a procedure done to check the ability to hear loudness and pitch of the sound.
Hearing test is used to determine how well a person can hear and to find out if there are hearing problems that need treatment.

4. Vision Screening is used to detect eye condition and to test if children have visual impairment. Some of the eye conditions can lead to loss of sight. This needs appropriate professional eye care. Persons with eye problems should visit eye doctor or ophthalmologist for check-ups and treatments.

5. Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves sideways. Scoliosis Test is a simple screening test to detect any spine problems. A scoliometer is used to determine the severity of curve of the spine. Scoliosis is confirmed by undergoing X-ray of the entire spine.

6. Dental Health Examination is done to check the condition of your teeth and gums. Teeth problems could be serious and painful if not treated early. A person with dental health problem should visit the dentist for his or her oral needs.

7. Health Examination is important to prevent illnesses and to monitor persons’ health status. Health examination includes all laboratory tests like blood test, urine test, x-ray and stool examination.

Instruction: Complete the table by writing the importance of the health appraisal procedures. Do it in your notebook.

MAPEH MUSIC 6 (Online/Modular)

Music is measured through the use of time signature. The rhythm of the song depends on the time signature too. The time signature is written at the beginning of the staff after the clef and the key signature.

Basic Time Signatures
Did you know that in music we can use varied time signatures?
A time signature is found at the beginning of a piece of music, after the clef and the key signature. It is a numerical indication of a piece showing the meter. It consists of two numbers; the upper and the lower number. The upper number tells the number of beats in every measure. The lower number tells the kind of note that receives one beat.

Do you know what time signature represents this pattern?

You have already learned the different simple time signatures. In this lesson you will learn about a compound time signature. A compound time signature tells that the beats will be divided into three equal parts. Which means, each beat contains a triple pulse. Shown below is an example of a 6/8 time signature.

6 – Six beat per measure
8 – Eighth note gets one beat

Let’s Study!

Answer the following in your notebook:
What is 6/8time signature?
What is the value of a quarter note/rest in 6/8 time signature?
What note/rest receives one beat in 6/8 time signature?
What note/rest has the longest duration in 6/8 time signature?
How many pulses are there in every beat?

The 6/8 time signature is called a compound meter. It means that there are six
beats in a measure. The lower number 8 tells the kind of note that gets one beat.

Since 8 is the lower number, the note that receives one beat is eighth note  . Any time signature with 6 on top is a compound duple.
A rhythmic pattern is a combination of notes and rests which is based on the
given time signature of a song or composition.

Rhythm: Conducting 2/4. 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 Time Signature

Study the patterns below.
Copy and answer, draw what is asked:

What is the conducting pattern of 2/4 time signature?
What is the conducting pattern 3/4 of time signature?
What is the conducting pattern 4/4 of time signature?
What are their counting patterns?

Conducting Patterns
Have you watched or attended a concert? Have you noticed the conductor leading the choir, band or orchestra?
Conductors direct a choir, ensemble, band, and orchestra through arm movements that suits the chosen music or repertoire of the group. These are called conducting gestures or conducting patterns.
We see conductors in school choirs, church choirs, marching bands, symphony band, ethnic ensemble and in a concert orchestra.

Identify the time signature for each conducting pattern.

 COMPUTER SOFTWARE

Computer Software

Software is a collection of instructions that enable the user to interact with a computer, its hardware, or perform tasks. Without software, most computers would be useless.

Three Types of Computer Software:

1. Systems Software or Operating system is the software used by the computer to translate inputs from various sources into a language which a machine can understand. It coordinates the different hardware components of a computer. Example is the Microsoft.

 2. Programming Software is a kind of computer software which is used exclusively by computer programmers.

3. Application Software is used to interact with a computer. Popular examples of application software are the Microsoft Office suite which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Applications we use to connect to the internet are internet explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

How important is computer software in making painting today?

The first step is drawing your image. Then scan it into your computer and finally, use a computer program to transform your work by cropping, editing, enhancing, lightening, darkening, shading, adding color, layering, styling, or just about any other editing graphic you can think of.

To get started with digital painting, the following could be of great help.

1. GIMP - a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image retouching and editing.

2. Photo Editor - an application used for editing photos.

3. Photoshop - turn on photos into fantastical works of art. Crop, combine retouch and restore.

4. Paint (windows) - for Laptop / desktop PC. A simple raster graphics editor that gas been included with all version of Microsoft windows.

5. Inkscape - a professional quality vector graphics software which runs on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows desktop computers.

Here are some software tools used in digital printing.

The software above has several tools that provide all the colors that is needed

to make the coloring in your painting easy.

1. Burn Tool - darkens the image. Just drag the tool over the image.

2. Crop Tool - changes the size of the image. Select the area you want to crop and press enter.

3. Eraser Tool - erases part of the image in a certain layer by flattening the image or go through every layer to delete the part.

4. Type Tool - puts texts in a picture.

5. Pencil Tool and Brush Tool - these tools draw or paint a line. To change the color of the paint brush, click on the color picker.

Computer Software is a collection of instructions that enable the user to interact with a computer, it’s hardware, or perform tasks. Without software, most computers would be useless.

The three types of Software are:

MAPEH 6 PHYSICAL EDUCATION- STRIKING/FIELDING GAMES

Credits to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O4o-xqrseQ

STRIKING/FIELDING GAMES

Striking/Fielding games are activities in which players score points by striking an object and running to designated playing areas or prevent opponent from scoring by retrieving the object and returning it to stop the play. By playing these games participants will learn the key skills and tactics for games such as baseball and softball. Traditional games include Shatong and Basagang Palayok.

SHATONG

Shatong is not your common sports. It is a game played in the suburbs and rural areas of the Philippines but similarly played in the Middle East that goes by the name Gutalaguti. The game makes use of two sticks, one longer than the other. The longer stick will serve like a bat and the shorter stick serves like the hit. There needs to be two teams to play this game the hitter and the fetcher.

The concept of the game is to hit the shorter stick with the longer stick as far as it can go and when this happens, the hitter will run to marked area. There will be 4 marked areas just like in baseball and while the other team is fetching the shorter stick, the third and back to the home base. The fun part of the game is that while the hitter is running from one marked area to the other, he or she must be shouting the name of the game as in SHAAAAAAAAAAAATONG!

In this game, the learners will know how to play as a team, practice Math skills such as counting 2s, 3s. It will also develop their batting, running, breathing, and catching skills.

  • Materials Needed

1. A playing field/space

2. One foot long stick, one (5 inches) short stick, and a small hole on the ground.

  • Mechanics:

Player A becomes the hitter and Player B as the catcher. It is played outside on the ground where one digs a small square hole (which is slanted), where they put the small wood so that it sticks out.

Player A hits the wood with the stick is that it catches air enough to be hit by the stick. The further the wood gets hit the more points one gets hit the more points one gets (usually counted by the number of stick length).

If Player A risks, he may try to add a multiplier to his score. By hitting the wood upwards twice in one turn before striking it forward, the points will then be counted by the number of wood length instead.

Player B on the other hand has to anticipate and catch the small piece of wood to nullify the points and become his turn or looks forward to Player A to miss hitting the wood.

Sometimes the losing player is punished. The penalty is hopping on one foot from a designated spot marked by the winning player. This is done again by hitting the wood with the stick in midair as far away as possible. The spot where it lands is where the losing player starts until he reaches the hole.

In this game, the pupils learn how to play as a team, practice Math skills such as counting 2s, 3s. It will also develop their batting, running and catching skills.

  • These are the safety precautions before playing Shatong:

1. Establish medical readiness

1.1 A self reported health status

    1.2 Free form any sickness

2. Proper Clothing

1.1 Avoid clothing that is too tight or that restricts movement.

1.2 For women, wear an exercise bra for support.

1.3 For men, consider an athletic supporter.

    Skills needed in the Game:

1. running

2. batting

3. hitting

4. counting

5. catching

MAPEH 6 PHYSICAL EDUCATION- TARGET GAMES

DODGEBALL ''BATUHANG BOLA''

Target Game

Target games are games that involve the players in placing an object near or in a target to be able to get the highest possible score. The players must propel the object with much accuracy and control to hit the target. The players should also know how to protect the object to prevent the other players from scoring. Target games involve different manipulate skills like throwing, tossing, rolling, catching, running, jumping, hopping, and stretching.

Batuhang Bola

Children naturally love to play outdoor games. One of the most common games is dodgeball. Batuhang Bola is the Filipino version of dodgeball. It is a game that children usually play the most because it is very enjoyable and exciting. It really makes children active because it involves throwing, running, jumping, hopping, catching and dodging which kids really love. It must be done skillfully to have more fun in this game. Dodgeball or Batuhang Bola is a game in which players on two teams try to throw balls at each other while avoiding being hit. Dodgeball originated in Africa. It was played there for over two hundred years ago. The original version of it is deadlier and more painful because instead of rubber balls, they used rocks or putrefied matter. That version is played by African tribes to train them.

These are the safety precautions before playing Batuhang Bola:

1. Establish medical readiness

1.1 A self-reported health status

1.2 Free form any sickness

2. Proper Clothing

2.1 Avoid clothing that is too tight or that restricts movement.

2.2 For women, wear an exercise bra for support.

2.3 For men, consider an athletic supporter.

Mechanics of the game

1. To play Batuhang Bola you must first gather 2 teams and get a ball.

2. Players play in front of the end line, each them must have a space behind them(5m). When the player is out they go and play behind the other team. In order to get back in they have to hit an opponent

3. The first team should stand in the middle of the court, while the second team should be divided into two and should stand at both sides of the first team.

4. The second team should hit the players of the first team. If the second team could hit a player in the first team, that player is out.

5. If that player catches a ball, his team will gain a ” life” and can be used to revive another player or be used to continue to play on if the ball hits him/her.

6. The team will win if it hit all the players and none of the players are left.

The following are the rules of Batuhang Bola:

1. Toss coin will decide who will be the Offensive Team or Defensive Team.

2. Teams will be playing a 30 minute game with teams exchanging position as Offensive and Defensive teams every 5 minutes or until a team scores 5 points.

3. There will be a 5 minute halftime break.

4. Offensive Team will place 1 player each on the Shooter (S) position and 2 players on Assist (A) position behind the shooter.

5. Shooters are only allowed to throw the ball at Defensive players behind the line at the base of the triangle which is the designated throw area.

6. Assists are not allowed to throw the ball at the deflectors.

7. Defensive Team will field 5 players in the playing court as Deflectors.

8. Deflectors will try to avoid getting hit by the Offensive Teams shooters until the 5minute time limit expires.

9. Teams will be given two (2) three (3) minute time out each half of game play.

10. Substitution can only be done on dead ball situations.

Tumbang Preso

Tumbang Preso (“knock down the prisoner”), also known as Tumba Lata (“knock down the can”) or bato late (“hit the can [with a stone]”), is a traditional a Filipino child’s game. This is a very common game among the youth all over the country, played in backyards, park or even in side streets. For the purpose of making the game enjoyable and exciting, the composition of players should not be more than 9. One player guards the milk can (the "It") while the others stay behind the toe-line with their pamato. The objective is for the players to hit and knock down the milk can with the pamato, and for the It to put back the can inside a small circle a few meters away from the toe-line. When a player is tagged while recovering their pamato, they become the It.

Without these items, it will not consider as Tumbang Preso. You need items such as:

      An it.

Two or more players. A rectangular field A can.

A pair of slippers or a piece of flat stone as a “pamato.”

A chalk or any marking tool for lines and indicators

The mechanics of tumbang preso are somewhat similar to Duck on the Rock:

1. An It, is the one to guard the tin can is chosen by throwing the pamato to the toe-line by all the players. Whoever's pamato is farthest from the toe-line is the It.

2. The hitters will get ready at the back of the toe-line and at a signal from the game starts.

3. The pamato must be retrieved immediately once the can is knocked down, the

It will start putting it up inside the circle, the one tagged becomes the It.

4.When the can is hit and falls outside the circle but remains standing, the It has the right to tag the hitter once the hitter leaves the toe-line.

5.The can may be kicked or knocked down under when it is outside the circle.

6.If a hitter is not able to retrieve his/her pamato, the others can save him/her by hitting the can.

This variation is played on narrow streets or sidewalks. The same rules apply except for some changes:

1.Two toe-lines are drawn, on opposite sides and are closer to the circle.

2.The number of hitters will be divided on opposite sides.

3.The milk can may also be
flattened a little to make it harder to topple. This can be done by slightly hitting the sides of the can with a blunt object until it folds, then stepping on the can carefully.

4.When the hitters run out of pamato, the game turns into a chase. Players on one side will act as bait while those on the other side will try to kick the can, all while trying to avoid being tagged.

5.After the can falls down, the game is paused and all pamato will be retrieved.
